Application - Corky Thatcher
1. In game name: Corky Thatcher
2. Real life age: 34
3 Approximate character skills: DF:UW Beta - Mage & Warrior (will probably level up Warrior for launch and convert to mage when health is built up)
4 Darkfall playstyle: Crafter and PvPer
5 How long have you been playing DF? Been following it since '08, got scared away from DF1's abysmal launch. Willing to give DF:UW a try though.
6 What other clans have you been in? (What did you like/dislike?) I've been in 1 clan for a couple of weeks and their lack of strategy discussions in forum, lack of Beta partcipation (we're waiting for the persistence bug to go away, etc) has really turned me off. I joined them because one of the members had a great sandbox-centric blog, but that's the only reason really. My best clan experience was in WAR, where I was an officer in a fairly successful guild. I still keep in touch with some of the members there and would really like it if I could establish the same relationship with members in this guild.
7 Personal Info: (Gaming history, play schedule, job, or whatever else you want to share)
Been gaming since 09' (Asheron's Call) and have played dozens of MMO's since. My favorite sandbox was SWG (was the best weaponcrafter on the server when I quit). My favorite PvP game was probably WAR (was in "the best" Order guild on our server). I usually play late night EST, but I'm a software developer who works from home and has a pretty flexible schedule...I have been known to take a day off or quit work early just to jump on and play during the day. I also have an awesome wife who supports my gaming hobby (within reason, of course).
8 What you are looking for in clan?
What led me to applying to the guild was the postings by several of the members of Absolution (namely Belig and Uzik). I never see them participate in the usual ass-hattery associated with the DF forums. Just a lot of great Beta feedback and constructive discussions with others. I also liked Uzik's "Supreme Defender of Noobs" moniker--playing a full-loot, PvP-centric MMO does not mean you have to be an asshole. I'm really looking for a clan that likes working together and is SUCCESSFUL at working together. Ideally the clan's members would be people I'd hang out with IRL.
8b What you are NOT looking for in a clan?
Frenzied teenagers screaming in vent. Coked up guild leaders ruling members with an iron fist. Assholes. Exploiters (FYI, I don't consider duping in DF:UW's current state exploiting.)
9 What can Absolution do for you?
Be the type of clan I think you are (see 8.) and continue being the clan I think you are.
I noticed there wasn't really a section for "What can you do for the clan?" so I'll just add that part here. I really enjoy crafting and I really enjoy PvP. Always willing to craft things @ cost (free with mats). Always willing to join in in small-scale skirmishes with fellow guildies. And can almost always participate in planned large-scale activities, such as sieges. I also enjoy participating in clan forums, discussing strategy (AHK scripts, Naga binds, best ways to advance skills, etc) and brainstorming ideas to help the clan progress.

Although tasty, it can not hold a candle to a Fluffernutter.

Re: Application - Corky Thatcher
Did you ever play DF1? What did you like/ dislike about it?
When given orders in pvp, do you follow them regardless of your personal thought or do you just do your own thing?
In your responses, you referenced 'the best' in multiple locations. Although we strive to be the best in all that we do; Absolution is about community first above all else. Please know going in, this is our main focus.
We know each others IRL names, family, jobs, etc and for the most part have played together for a very long time. You will not find screamers or coked up meth heads here.
If this is understood and acceptable, you're in.

Did you ever play DF1? What did you like/ dislike about it?
Like I said, I've been following DF since a few months before its initial release...but I decided to wait and see how it played out instead of playing it immediately. The rampant exploiting (underground movement, kill-stealing horses, etc) kept me from purchasing it. I think about 1 year ago I played it for about a week (free trial), but the empty population kept me from actually purchasing it.
From what I did play, I liked how world resources looked like the world, instead of WoW-style resource nodes. I liked how deep the crafting seemed (at least, the shear amount of resources seemed complex). I liked the challenge of the FPS model (I've always played tab-targetting MMO's).
I disliked how outmatched I was, and was always going to be, without macroing all my skills. I disliked having to create a complex AHK setup to make the UI work. I disliked how everyone could learn everything...which meant you had to learn everything and be everything to succeed. (I was every excited to hear about the "role" system in DF:UW).
I saw it as a game that had a lot of promise and was excited when they announced DF:UW. I was (am?) hoping they would fix all the broken stuff about DF1 while still keeping its core-elements (full-loot, world-wide PvP, FPS, etc)
When given orders in pvp, do you follow them regardless of your personal thought or do you just do your own thing?
Obviously, the group "lead" is in charge and I have no problem following orders. It's important that the group work together...otherwise it really isn't a group. I also think that I'll be able to lead groups as well, once I learn more about the game itself.

Well I gave two examples of my accomplishments. SWG was definitely an individual one. WAR, however, was a large-scale one which was all about clan (community) accomplishment. I just used them as examples of the kind of player I am...one that functions well on his own but also one that has worked with and led a large group of people.
We know each others IRL names, family, jobs, etc and for the most part have played together for a very long time. You will not find screamers or coked up meth heads here.
Glad to hear it.

Sounds good!

Also, just noticed that you were from Pottstown. I'm originally from Bucks County and just moved from Philly about a year ago. Wish I was still there but, unfortunately, I met an awesome gal, married her, and followed her to Grand Rapids, Michigan heh.

Ahh, very nice.
I only moved to Pottstown recently when my wife and I bought our first home.
Before this, I lived in East Norriton, King of Prussia and Lansdale.
Where abouts in Bucks County? My mother taught middle school in Bucks County for 20+ years.

I grew up in Levittown, then moved to Doylestown in high school.
For junior high (there was no middle school) I went to Carl Sandberg, in Neshaminy school district.
I tried registering before, but it said "Sorry, but this e-mail address is invalid." I'm trying to use saxton@gmail dot com, but it isn't working. Is that email address already taken?

No, Levittown, PA. The one on Long Island was the first one. Levitt then expanded into PA (where he allowed people to chose from 5 different house types, instead of just one on LI, heh).
Okay, I was able to create my account (Corky) using a different email address.

Thanks guys. I applied to the "Member" group. Not sure if there is anything else for me to do. Is there a "trial period" before gaining access to member forums, TS, and such?

Also, I planned on creating a new website for the clan, so if everyone could please PM me their Social Security numbers, this will allow me to automatically setup everyone's account. Thanks.
